Question: I have a 69 piece sterling silver flatware set that weights a total of 104.55 ounces mad by International Company. Included in the set are 10 knives, one pie server, and one cheeses server, which all have stainless steel blades. All of the rest of the metal is sterling silver. – Thanks from Bonnie in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Hi Bonnie,
“Where to sell sterling silver flatware?” is becoming a more common question as it becoming outdated, hard to manage and more valuable refined and melted than sitting in a closet.
Thank you for mentioning the pieces that you have in your sterling silverware set that are made with other metals. Did you include these in your total weight of 104.55 ounces you gave? We would recommend weighing these items separately then you will have one weight that you know is all sterling made up of forks and spoons, and a second weight that is not all sterling made up of your knives and other sterling pieces.
For .925 sterling silver flatware we pay 75% of the fine silver content by weight. If you use our silver value calculator, an estimate of what you would receive back is 75% of that total that it gives. The calculator on our website does not take out any percentages. It provides market indications of what your gold and silver is worth if it were in an investment grade form.
Below is a screen shot where we plugged in the daily silver price (currently at $33.66/troy ounce), 104.55 average ounces, and .925 grade silver.
*This price may not reflect the current price of silver when this blog entry was posted. The output from the calculator is not a confirmation of the purchase price from Arch Enterprises.

I have a large set of 1847 Rogers Bros (First Love) IS – flat wear – looking for interested parties to purchase. Six serving set – to include butter knife, sea food fork (two spine), and several other specialty pieces. If interested please advise. Thank-you
Hi Randall,
In what we have found with the “1847 Rogers Bros (First Love) IS” is that is it silverplate and not sterling. In which case, we would not be able to offer a return for your pieces. If you have any other pieces that are in face STERLING silver, please let us know.
Best,
Arch
i have a set of forks fostessa 1840..With a small square box design iin the front left corner..
Hi Alma,
Do you know if your set is sterling? We are finding Fortessa stainless steel sets online here http://www.surlatable.com/category/cat450608/Fortessa. We are not antique dealers and our business is not in brands of silverware or specific patterns. Instead, we give estimates based on the weight of your precious metal. If you see any markings that indicate sterling we may be able to help. Thanks.

Hi Kim,
Thanks for your question. Unfortunately, we cannot refine items that are silver plated. You may also find this post on determining whether your items are sterling or plated to be helpful: http://www.precious-metal-refining.info/wm-rogers-silverware-what-is-brazilian-silver/

I have a 44 piece set of 18th century Reed and Barton Sterling silver flatware. 7-5pc place settings, 1-4 pc place setting and a 5pc hostess set. Should I sell this for its silver content or sell as flatware? Thanks for your input.
I have a general question about silver flatware. I have just read that most people buying silver flatware on Ebay are buying it to melt down to make money and not really interested in the silver ware at all. My question is.. in order to return a profit, at what price would I need to be able to buy silver ware to make it worth my while to resell it for melting down purposes. Or is anything for sale on Ebay already priced too high for that to be possible? Thanks for any help.
